My Pregnancy: 14 Years Ago Today

posted on 29 April 2011 | posted in Health and Beauty

Although 14 years have passed since the birth of my son, and almost 17 since my daughter was born, both pregnancies and births will be treasured. They were both very positive experiences, as I tried to live every minute of both 9 month periods. When I see young mothers rifling through their changing bags, trying to feed one baby while scolding another toddler for running around, I can't help but remember the time when I was a young mother too.

I had not gained much weight during either pregnancy and I do not remember any uncomfortable feelings, such as morning sickness. The only thing that I regret not being told was that it really didn't hurt while actually giving birth, but the cramps before that were intolerable. After the birth of my first child I was so amazed at the miracle, I hardly noticed any inconvenience. My second pregnancy concluded in a C section, since my baby boy had got entangled in the cord and could not move. It was only by chance that the doctor realised what was happening. I remember listening to the doctors talking seconds before I was put to sleep. Fortunately, everything turned out well for both of us. However, in both cases the most amazing detail was the sound of their heartbeat. More than any video, or color sonar picture. Listening to the little hearts on a simple sonar at the doctor's office was making everything so real. I need to also add that no matter who or how supportive people around you are, a pregnancy is something every woman goes though on her own apart from the help of her doctor.
